Benign Symmetric Lipomatosis
Abstract
Benign symmetric lipomatosis is a rare condition characterized by symmetrical deposition of adipose tissue in the neck and trunk. The condition was first reported by Otto Madelung in 1888, as a diffuse multilobular lipomatosis involving the neck and shoulders in a cape-like distribution. There was no report of this disorder in Korean literature, but more than 150 cases have been recorded in European publications.
We present a thirty-year-old Korean man who had benign symmetric lipomatosis. He was
treated surgically at Department of surgery, Wonju Medical College, Yonsei University, and the results were satisfactory.
